How to multistream vertical video from OBS

1

Install the plugin

Close OBS, run the installer, reopen OBS. The MultiStream docks appear automatically, including Vertical Canvas Preview.

2

Open the vertical canvas

In OBS go to Docks → Vertical Canvas Preview and pick the scene you want to show in 9:16 portrait. It reuses your existing sources — no second OBS needed.

3

Add your vertical platform

In the Multiple Output panel add a Custom RTMP target for TikTok, YouTube Shorts or Instagram and paste the vertical stream key. Note: TikTok Live requires RTMP access (eligibility varies by account) — YouTube Shorts and Instagram have no such gate.

4

Go live everywhere at once

Hit Start All. Your horizontal 16:9 stream goes to Twitch/YouTube/Kick and your vertical 9:16 feed goes to TikTok and Shorts — simultaneously.

One PC, both orientations

Most "vertical streaming" setups force you into a cloud reframing service or a whole second OBS instance on a second machine. The MultiStream OBS Plugin does it locally: a single OBS runs your horizontal stream and a parallel vertical 9:16 canvas at the same time.

That means you can keep your full Twitch/YouTube/Kick broadcast in landscape while clipping the same content into a portrait feed for TikTok Live, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels — without re-encoding twice on separate computers.

Frequently asked questions

Can I stream vertical to TikTok and YouTube Shorts at the same time?

Yes. Add both as Custom RTMP targets and the vertical 9:16 canvas feeds both simultaneously, in parallel with your horizontal stream.

Do I need a second OBS or a second PC for vertical?

No. The Vertical Canvas Preview dock runs inside your existing OBS instance and reuses your scenes. One PC handles both orientations.

Does vertical streaming need more CPU?

A vertical output adds one extra encode. On most modern CPUs or with NVENC/AMF hardware encoding the impact is small. Your upload bandwidth grows by roughly the vertical stream's bitrate.

Which platforms accept a vertical RTMP feed?

TikTok Live, YouTube (vertical live / Shorts), Instagram Live and any custom RTMP server that accepts a 9:16 portrait resolution. Note that TikTok only exposes its RTMP stream key to accounts with TikTok Live access, so make sure your account is eligible first.
